After Series
After dark, the every day world faded, leaving behind
a place where the dead return, magic is real, and
Andrew's lover isn't human.
After Dark
When his sadistic older brother returns from the dead and attacks him, Andrew Sutter and his lover, Devon Forsythe, must find a way to stop him.
The struggle, though, awakens Andrew’s magical abilities. Now able to see magic in the world around him, he discovers that Devon is a werewolf. |
The wind tugged at Andrew Sutter's umbrella, making the handle tremble and allowing the rain to stab him. The blanket of clouds darkened the cemetery, turning the afternoon into dusk.
Around the casket, three black umbrellas shifted, moving to hide their owners from the storm.
Andrew tightened his grip on the handle. The rain created a bitterly cold barrier between him and the others. Despite his time on the phone a couple days before, it was a small ceremony. Julia and Sean, Tyler's wife and thirteen-year-old son; him, and--
The wind yanked Andrew's umbrella forward. The black shape tugged at his hand, trying to both draw him towards the casket and escape.
Movement, out of the corner of his eyes, and then Devon was there, grabbing the umbrella's nylon fabric and steadying it.
The wind jerked Devon's umbrella out of his hand. The black shape tumbled over the casket, past a startled Julia, and then disappeared into a cluster of oaks.
"That worked a lot better in my mind," Devon said. There was a trace of an English accent in his voice, drawing out the vowels in his words.
Andrew braced his umbrella against the wind and then stepped up behind Devon to shield him from the rain.
Devon glanced at him. His pale blond hair was damp and half hid his green eyes. Andrew suspected that Devon kept his hair that long because he wanted to hide an embarrassing truth: he was beautiful. Across an oval-shaped canvas were long lashes, almost full lips, and a nose that he'd yet to find the description of. It was not quite aquiline and not quite button. Andrew didn't know if he'd ever find it, just like he didn't know where Tyler had buried the body of Andrew's first love. For now that was all right. Andrew intended to keep looking.
"How are you doing?" Devon asked.
Andrew shrugged. He'd killed his brother. He felt better than he probably should.
After Midnight
Devon and Andrew have the power to protect one another.
That power might also tear them apart.
Months after learning that he's a werewolf, Devon struggles to learn how to control his change. Werewolves may have killed his parents when he was a child but since his lover isn't afraid to explore the magic woken by his brother's attack, Devon wants to take control of this aspect of his life. | |
The supernatural world doesn't care for mages, though, and Andrew realizes that in order to protect his loved ones he may have to delve deeper into the kind of magic his brother used.
When Andrew starts to go dark, Devon has to find a way to stop him . . . before Andrew can seduce him into following him. |
“Would you like me to leave you alone so you can continue practicing?”
“No.” Devon had succeeded in holding the change. Tomorrow he would try to hold it longer and hope that he didn’t fall down so much. “Was I very frightening?”
Devon had wanted to ask before, but he’d been afraid. Prior had shot him because of what he’d seen. Andrew may have accepted it, but it didn’t mean he wasn’t unnerved.
“No,” Andrew said.
No? “The teeth and claws didn’t unnerve you?”
Hint of movement, of a head moving side to side, and then Andrew’s lips grazed Devon’s face. “The better to defend yourself and others, my dear.”
Devon’s unease faded. Trust Andrew to tease away a worry. “And the ears?”
“The better to hear a lover’s moan with, my dear.”
“You can’t tell me that the tail did anything for you.”
Andrew chuckled. His hands crept low, settling over Devon’s hips. “You’d be surprised,” he whispered. A hot weight pressed against Devon’s ass.
A pleasant shiver darted through him, ending in his member. Yes, he was surprised.
After Midnight Snippets
Despite my outline's efforts to keep me on track, I sometimes write scenes that I hadn't planned on. Sometimes it's for the best and the story breaks off in a cool new direction. Other times these scenes are just cute and I wince as I cut them out (L.M. Prieto's Lost Snippets currently has enough scenes to make a very interesting, though disjointed, story). Instead of hiding the After Midnight snippets, this time I decided to share them. After Midnight Snippets |
